"Translation - transferring written text from one language into another in writing."
What type of translation do I offer?
English is my language of habitual use
since 1997. I ensure that the target text in English, which I
have translated from Czech or Slovak, is always proofread by an English
native speaker to ensure that the grammar, style and punctuation
are correct. My English proofreader has a keen eye
for detail, technical qualifications and a career in electronic
engineering, therefore he is also able to check the content and
accuracy in technical texts.
In the past I worked for law firms and an investment management company in UK and during my employment have gained practical experience of business and legal English terminology. I feel completely 'at home' translating legal and business documents into English.
My specialist subjects are: Business, Legal, Health and Technical
(for further information on the above visit the Specialist Subjects page.
I work with the translation memory tools Trados and SDLX - versions 2006 Professional. Please click on the following link if you would like to find out more about Translation memory tools.
"Proofreading - comparing the translation in the target language with the original text in the source language, checking accuracy of the content, grammar, style or typographical errors and making any necessary corrections."
When to use a proofreader?
Do you want to produce a document that will be intended for a wide readership, for example: a website, marketing brochure or information leaflet for print in a foreign language? All such documents require translation to the highest standards and accuracy. It is good practice to have them proofread by another translator or proofreader who can look at the translated text with 'fresh eyes', check the grammar, contents and stylistics and make any necessary amendments and corrections before your documents are printed or websites launched on the Internet.
If you are going to spend a vast amount of money on having your brochures or leaflets printed in a foreign language, it is important that there will not be any typographical errors or parts of the text missing and that the text will be easy to read for the native speakers. It must be written in the right style for the target audience and the wording should flow easily.
I would recommend that you arrange for
proofreading of all translated documents where accuracy of the
content
is important to you.
I only proofread documents which are translated from English into Czech (my mother tongue)
I ensure that the target texts which I translate from Czech into English are always proofread by an English native speaker for correct grammar, style and punctuation. My English proofreader has a keen eye for detail, technical qualifications and a career in electronic engineering, therefore he is also able to check the content and accuracy in technical texts (relating to electrical, electronic and IT equipment).
