Interests and hobbies

I live in the UK permanently but I’m still trying to keep in touch with the current affairs and happenings in the Czech Republic. I travel back there frequently, read Czech books and thanks to satellite reception also watch daily broadcasting of the Czech TV channels. This is a great way to observe how the modern Czech language is developing. For example what new expressions have been adopted from foreign languages - very often from English. And of course, this allows me to enjoy watching old and new Czech films and TV dramas.

Seeing British or other foreign films both in English and Czech is not only entertaining but also good exercise for thinking about translation of dialogues for dubbing. Besides that I practice simultaneous interpreting by interpreting narratives of documentary programmes, film dialogues or TV news to the English members of my family.

If it is true that you can tell something about people by the books they read, then you would find that I am also interested in Graphology, which is the study and analysis of handwriting especially in relation to human psychology; and Homeopathy which is a form of alternative medicine.

Otherwise I enjoy gardening, walking in the lovely countryside and around small pretty towns or socialising with my friends.
